Dr. Larry John Barnhardt, professor emeritus at Boise State University, has a career that spanned 40 years and has been dedicated to making a difference in the lives of students through his work as an instructor, educational supervisor, executive director, college president, and university dean, all within the field of postsecondary technical education. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership with minors in psychology and sociology from Oregon State University.
Larry’s journey into mindfulness began in 2007 when he and his wife retired and spent their first winter in Ajijic, one of Mexico’s largest ex-pat communities. There they joined the Lake Chapala Society, an organization dedicated to serving the needs of the foreign and Mexican communities. There, Larry began attending Everyday Mindfulness, a weekly discussion group where he started journaling the things he was learning. In the fall of 2018, he began organizing this information, which led to the book Knowing the Deepest Happiness.
Knowing the Deepest Happiness is a beginner’s guide to mindfulness that combines ancient Buddhist teachings with the virtues of modern-day positive psychology. It is also a workbook with exercises to help you incorporate these principles into your day-to-day, moment-to-moment life. Lastly, this book can help you create a personalized roadmap for your journey into the deepest happiness.
Larry is donating 100% of the proceeds of book sales to Lakeside charities, including the Lake Chapala Society and FoodBank Lakeside.
